  • MS150

    Hello loyal readers/internet stalkers,

I'm joining some of my coworkers in September in a 150 mile, 2 day bike ride from San Francisco to Napa ("Waves to Wine") to fundraise money to fight MS.

    http://wavestowine.org/

We have a $10,000 goal, and I'd love some support - whether you can donate money and sponsor me, or if you want to join us! (It's called Team Google, but anyone can join the team :)

My page below, (I think I've fundraised $0 at this point, sad :( )

    http://www.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR?pg=personal&fr_id=5870&px=3850585

If you sponsor me, I promise to be super excited about it. Preview: Yay!

If you can't sponsor me, I forgive you, but think happy thoughts at me, because I'm ridiculously undertrained at the moment.

    Thanks!

    Steph

  • Reach out and touch someone?

    http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2007/06/25/youtube_post_leads_to_a_visit_and_a_proposal/?rss_id=Boston+Globe+--+Globe+North

Okay, so I lied. Here's a post. The article is about a kid who posted on YouTube with his cellphone number - asking people to call him if they wanted to talk to someone. He's taken tens and thousands of calls, and one of the calls is now his fiancee.

This reminds me of that random phone out in the mojave desert: http://deuceofclubs.com/moj/mojave.htm

A guy decided to call it everyday to see if anyone would pick up. After about a month, somebody did. Now it's become kind of a cult thing - lots of people call it, lots of people travel to it to pick it up.

It's all about fundamentally feeling connected to someone. And of course, sometimes it's easiest to talk to someone who's a complete stranger. All any of us really wants is to be a part of something, however quirky or small. It's weird, right. It makes us feel better knowing that someone out there in the ether cares about something we say. (Like you, gentle reader.)

This particular story is a little dorky - the kids are like 20 years old, but it's a little bit inspiring. Looking into strangers' lives? It also reminds me a little bit of PostSecret (postsecret.blogspot.com) - what Frank must do on a day to day basis.

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled static.

  • Twitter

I think I'm pretty much not going to update Xanga anymore. It's been a good .. 4 years?! Holy crap.

Well, I might, I guess, for the no doubt loyal readership I have here? But anyway, if you want more frequent cyberstalking opportunities, follow me on twitter (twitter.com/stephliu) or friend me on Facebook. Or I will leave the little twitter app here, and if you actually click through to peoples' blogs, you can read updates on that too.
